Casting vision is a difficult task. Something that is easy to remember. Something that inspires. Something that will last (well, for at least five years). Something that uses action verbs. Something that is measurable. Something that is simple. That is a lot of weight for a vision statement to carry.

For the entirety of our time together I have been casting and promoting a simple personal vision statement “Love is the Answer” as a foundation to faith and action. It is time to consider a congregational vision of how we practice “Love is the Answer” in our organizational life. The vision builds upon who we are as God’s beloved and what we do as disciples of Jesus. Also, vision will realize the best of what is already happening in a community. So here we go…

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.

And love your neighbor as you love yourself.” Matthew 12:30-31 and Luke 10:27

WORSHIP GOD (love God) – As followers of Jesus Christ and beloved of God we sing praise, request prayer, receive the Word of God, and offer gifts. This happens regularly to nurture our relationship and encourage our spirits in the presence of our Creator.

BUILD DISCIPLES (love yourself) – When we learn and teach, we grow in our faith and discipleship. Therefore, Christian education through small group and personal study, fellowship of believers, and retreats offer opportunities to sharpen our understanding and deepen our commitment as followers and disciples of Jesus.

CHANGE LIVES (love neighbor) – Jesus claims his calling in the world from reading Isaiah 61:1-2, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor, freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” When we are servants for Jesus, we are servants to the world in need of physical, emotional, societal and spiritual renewal.

During the month of November let’s discover a vision for our congregation to

As we reach the end of the month, you will have opportunity to commit to this vision in a variety of ways in the life of the church. Join me in prayer, learning and serving for the sake of Jesus Christ in our community and our world today.
